Job Description:

1. Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with clients;
2. Agreeing a counselling contract to determine what will be covered in sessions (including confidentiality issues).
3. Encouraging clients to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others.
4. Actively listening to client concerns and empathising with their position.
5. Accepting without bias the issues raised by clients.
6. Helping clients towards a deeper understanding of their concerns.
7. Challenging any inconsistencies in what clients say or do.
8. Helping clients to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward.
9. Referring clients to other sources of help, as appropriate.
10. Attending supervision and training courses.
